The initial renovation of two barns allowed for the comparison of total slat and partial slat systems utilizing large group size pens. New feeder designs are on trial and new watering systems (swinging nipples) are being monitored. The SKOV - MULTI-step ventilation configuration is being utilized and evaluated. In September of 2000 the third barn was renovated - increased group size for contract finishing pigs. The newest version of the SKOV MULTI-step system is installed and currently being evaluated. This system allows for a finer tuned ventilation system which includes new variations in minimum ventilation control, humidity control, and even more control over air patterns. HoxLine Feeders from Roxell have proven a bonus to improved gains. In late 2002, ALTIC will begin feeding liquid whey as a means of reducing feed costs.
